Etsy Teams

For the past few months, Etsy.com has been making changes to their site, such as changing the central into "Teams" for you to join. At first, I wondered how is the teams gonna benefit me? Are they gonna bring more people to my store? Will I be noticed? Will my prescence as an Etsian even be acknowledged. There's alot of teams on Etsy and when I say alot I mean alot. I'm talkin' thousands. So I decided, alright, I'll join a team. So I intended on joining ONE team and I ended up in TWENTY-ONE teams. Here's SOME of the teams I'm a proud member of:

Its been a while since I did a Etsian Spotlight, so today I would like to cast a spotlight on Etsian, athinalabella. What I love about her shop is the colors and the originality of her work. Looking at her shop, you can tell this seller is not afraid to take risks. In one of her items she uses real sprinkles and resin to make some very pretty earrings. Here's a mini shop of her items:

Baby Headbands :)

Lately, I've been trying to find some inspiration and make new things. I've recently found a new interest in baby headbands. I have always wondered how people were able to place flowers and other cute do-dads on them, like hblackberry.

I was in the jewelry section of my local craft store and I was interested in buying some beads. I just so happened to go into the next aisle, and I saw THEM. THE HEADBANDS (glowing shadows and sound of angels in the background). I picked one up. So beautiful. So soft. So cute. I had to have it. :)))) So I rushed home, sat at my desk and just played with it. My plans for it, well I don't know, but ITS GONNA BE SOMETHING BIG.

Hand in Hand: Music and Art

One thing that I ABSOLUTELY can not live without is my iPod. I use this iPod 24/7; from the time I wake up to the time I go to the bed. I depend on my iPod to help me concentrate on work especially, my Etsy work. In fact, as this moment, I am listening to "This Time" by John Legend. Studies actually show that music helps students in academic work as well as others in concentration on other tasks. I personally believe, that I create my best work when I'm listening to music: it calms me, helps me think and the music itself keeps me focused. Prior to receiving my iPod, I would sit myself in front of the television, with my mind just wandering from channel to channel, but now its a complete turn around. I even notice in how my shop has changed since the addition of music in my routine. My personal playlist for creating my pieces include Kanye West, Alicia Keys, and John Legend. What about yours?

I apologize for my long hiatus from blogging, but truthfully I've been at lack of inspiration until about 5am this morning.

Other than my usual hop in the hot shower and the 20 minutes I spend picking out an outfit for the day, I need to check my Facebook. Yes, I know its unhealthy. I need to read status, look at new pictures, and see whos online(other than me at 5am).

Hello all!!! Its ChavaylaB!! I'm hoping you all had a great Easter holiday!!

Haiti Relief

This morning at 6:03 A.M, an aftershock with the magnitude of 6.1. A
magnitude is 6.1 equivalent to another earthquake, Last week Haiti has
suffered its worst earthquake since 1770. I was deeply affected by this
tragedy. I'm not afraid to admit my wallet is empty as well as many
others. As much as I wanted to donate money ...out of my own pocket, too
bad the only thing I could take out was pocket lint. But after this
morning, I decided that it isn't a choice. IT IS AN OBLIGATION. Its an
obligation to give to a country that we were too lazy to do anything
before prior to this situation. In the essence of my epiphany, in my
store, Chavayla Moon Designs, all purchases made from today through to
January 28, 2009, 50% will be given to the charity "Doctors Without
Borders".

New Year's Resolution

Well, August has come along, a dreaded month for most kids, Back to School. Pencils, notebooks, and homework galore. But I've noticed a new style among middle and high schoolers: Plaid. The brand known as "Urban Nomad" is very popular which also includes plaid. I think to myself how in the world can this be incorporated into jewelry. There's no way for this to be possible. I was very wrong. I noticed a senior wearing a choker with hot pink plaid beads. I stared at confused. How could this be? I don't know but, I'm going to find out, by trying it out myself. "Life is like a pyramid. It is made of different layers, or degrees, reflecting every aspect of your life.

At the base of the pyramid are "things", the material stuff surrounding you: in your home, your car, your office. Ever noticed how sometimes a small thing like getting files organized or getting rid of the clutter on the floor suddenly gave you energy? Maybe it even seemed to make another area of your life better?

We don’t have to perfectly organize everything to simplify our life. We can simply start at one place and feel the energy it gives us.

Here are some ideas to help you achieve this:)

First idea: Uncluttered Your Workplace

Using the Eisenhower method, use a desk, table (not your work desk!) or even the floor and separate the area in four zones.

Working clockwise, you will now go at every single piece of paper that sits on your work desk until there is none left (!) and place it in one of the following zones.

First Zone: The Bin
This is your “throw out – recycle rubbish” area. Everything that can be thrown out you put there, like: old newspapers, catalogs, magazines, envelopes, papers you thought you might use but never since you printed them 3 months ago... Getting rid of old stuff makes place for new one.

Second Zone: Hand Down
Maybe the fact you hate delegating is the reason why your desk is such a mess! Sure, you are a pro when it comes to resolve quickly these little uncomplicated things... but they may eventually keep you from doing bigger and funnier stuff! So get people involved!

Third Zone: Important
Keep in mind this pile should be kept pretty small. It includes everything you have to do yourself in the upcoming days of weeks. For that, you should have a good idea of what this document will be in the next stage.

Fourth Zone: Without Delay
You put in that zone everything you can handle right now, while you are still uncluttered! You can either get them done over the phone (put in third pile if there is no answer), by fax/e-mail or by filing the document right away.

The Eisenhower method works wonder as long as you respect these simple rules:
. No “intermediate” piles!
. Each piece of paper can only be touched once!
. Don’t allow yourself Fifth, Sixth... Zones!

A New Twist on Things

Today, I broke a promise to myself, and decided to post rings on my Etsy Site. I reverted back to a method I thought I made up by myself when I first started beading, but it was actually a universal method many beaders used. But I have to say I'm very proud of them.

Yes, today was full of many twists. Also Including a twist on a classic afternoon lunch favorite, PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY, AKA PB&J. My mom comes up with the most whimsical stuff and she never tells me about it. She knows I need help, but its every Etsy seller for themselves. My eye immediately moved to the bracelet, that looked like my lunch that I just finished eating hours before. Who doesn't love PB& J. She makes its with glass beads, and uses sterling silver for her findings. Her shop "Ribbon Candy" is sweet and delectable, with Dreamsicle and Tutti Fruitti. Her Peanut Butter and Jelly Colored Glass Beaded Bracelet is truly a favorite, of mine, too bad I can't eat it for tomorrow's lunch.

Tonight, I was enjoying my occasional stroll through the Etsy Sellers Base, and I found two remarkable sellers, JasB123, and VerreDesign. Tonight's journey has really sparked my interest, I mean it really sparked my interest and creativity. Their Etsy Stores, had me coming in and out for hours at a time. Its very rare when you see a beautifully delectable "approach on a brooch" and a bracelet that left me wanting Bazooka Bubble Gum.

This seller had a beautiful brooch, that had me thinking I was staring at a succulent Chocolate Truffle garnished with a beautiful rose from Lindt's, but to my surprise, it was actually a very original and delicious take on the classic ladies' rose brooch. Her store, entitled "Chocolate Bon Bon", expresses her everlasting love for chocolate brown. This pendant is one of the many tasty pieces featured in her shop from Chocolate Bon Bons to Chocolate Brown Trinket Boxes. Her shop truly brings alive the saying "I never met a piece of Chocolate I didn't like".

VerreDesign
This seller had a beautiful bracelet that had me wanting Bubble Gum. Her self-titled shop is based with her handmade art beads, and in some cases how they are incorporated into her beautiful work. The enticing and beautiful beads will always invite me back to her store, frequently.

On the 29th of August, which is the birthday of the late Michael Jackson, I will give my best effort to have Michael Jackson Tribute products available for purchase in his honor, as I'm trying to donate proceeds to his foundation, a strong goal of mine.
